Event: Antitrust Fundamentals for Distribution and Franchise Practitioners
Alicia Downey was on the faculty of Antitrust Fundamentals for Distribution and Franchise Practitioners, a teleseminar sponsored by the American Bar Association’s Section of Antitrust Law. The panelists reviewed antitrust principles and key cases applicable to distribution and franchising relationships.
SJC Law Clerks’ Society Elects New Co-Chair
Alicia Downey began a two-year term as the Co-Chair of the Governing Board of the Law Clerks’ Society of the Supreme Judicial Court for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Law Clerks’ Society is comprised of those who have served, or who currently serve, as law clerks to the Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court. Current and former Justices of the Court are also honorary members of the Society.
Alicia Downey Ranked in Massachusetts Super Lawyers and Top Women Attorneys
Super Lawyers has included Alicia Downey on its lists of 2013 Massachusetts Super Lawyers and The Top Women Attorneys in Massachusetts. Super Lawyers is a rating service of what it describes as outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. According to the company’s website, the selection process is multi-phased and includes independent research, peer nominations and peer evaluations. Alicia has been included on the list of Massachusetts Super Lawyers annually since 2004.
Alicia Downey Reappointed to Leadership of Distribution & Franchising Committee
Alicia Downey has been appointed to serve another one-year term as Vice Chair of the Distribution and Franchising Committee of the American Bar Association Section of Antitrust Law, effective September 1, 2013. In this leadership role, Alicia will work with other members of the committee to develop programs and publications of value to the section’s approximately 7600 members.
Alicia Downey Helps Out at SJC Law Day
Alicia Downey volunteered at the 2013 Law Day Celebration of the Supreme Judicial Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at the John Adams Courthouse in Boston. Alicia was one of several volunteers from the Supreme Judicial Court Law Clerks’ Society who facilitated discussions with visiting middle school students about the importance of the rule of law.
Victory on Appeal in Non-Compete Case
Downey Law won an interlocutory appeal to a single justice of the Massachusetts Appeals Court, which vacated a preliminary injunction to enforce non-competition agreements against two former employees of a student travel company. As a result of the court’s ruling, our clients were free to resume their employment with their new employer without restriction.
